How to make your office a place you look forward to spending time in

Most of us spend more time at work than we do at home with our families. After a tough day at work, it’s nice to return to comfortable, warm and pleasant surroundings in which to relax. We spend time and effort in making our homes a nice place to be, imagine if we could make work just as agreeable. Here are some tips to make your workplace a more inviting place to be:

  1. Try to stay clutter-free

The amount of clutter and dirt build-up in your workplace can cause significant distractions. Get busy with clearing out things you don’t need anymore, wipe down surfaces, walls and skirting boards and clear your desk every afternoon so it’s pleasant to return to the following morning.

  1. How does it look?

Mismatching fabrics, furniture and accessories could be bothering you on a sub-conscious level. Try to create an environment of harmony with matching colours to please the eye and not give you a headache! Be sure you have a comfortable office chair and invest in some personal objects to make your space feel less institutional or corporate. If your office could benefit from a complete overhaul, then consider Office fit out companies, like mobius at work ltd

  1. Personality

As the above point mentions, bring in some personal items to give your space more of a personal touch. Perhaps you have a decorative pillow, a favourite lamp or some family pictures you’d like to display? Place these items where you can easily see them. For motivation, why not create a mood board full of inspiring pictures of things you want to achieve or places you’d love to visit. This can act as a motivational reminder for why you’re at work in the first place!

  1. Bring some nature in

A touch of nature can really soften a space and offer mood-boosting qualities. Whether it’s a live plant, fresh flowers, stones, shells or even a fish tank – nature will bring a positive feeling of freshness into the workplace.

  1. Focus on lighting

You might not realise how much light could be affecting the way you feel. Having the proper lighting can significantly improve your energy levels, mood, hormone balance and productivity. Natural light is the best option, but if this isn’t possible, concentrate on mimicking natural light with functional task lighting.

  1. Be kind to yourself

We’re all guilty of indulging in ‘Cake Friday’ or whatever else you have going on in your workplace. Why not replace this with a healthy snack bar to keep energy levels maintained? Treat yourself to drinking coffee from a luxury mug or your tea in a china cup. Enjoy your water from a high-quality, decorative water bottle. All these little things will give you a sense of comfort and make your workspace just that little bit more appealing.
